Recreational Facilities Management centralizes the management of the recreational areas on campus, both indoor and outdoor facilities. Our goal is to provide a consistently high level of service to the many users of all the recreational sites. The James H. Barnhardt Student Activity Center (including the Miltimore-Wallis Complex addition) and the Belk Gymnasium are the two main components of this Department. The broad scope of activities that these two facilities can accommodate provide the University with multi-use space to meet the athletic, educational, recreational, and social needs of the campus community as well as, when scheduling allows, the greater Charlotte community.

BARNHARDT STUDENT ACTIVITY CENTER (The SAC) The James H. Barnhardt Student Activity Center (232,000 total square feet) serves as a social and recreational center for the campus community. The SAC contains an indoor track, recreational courts, indoor climbing wall, fitness center, aerobics studio and meeting facilities which offer students, staff, and faculty an opportunity to indulge in non-academic activities which promote communication, community, health, and fitness.

HALTON ARENA The Dale F. Halton Arena is a 9,000-seat venue located inside the Barnhardt Student Activity Center.  The arena is the home to the Charlotte 49ers men's and women's basketball games.  Halton Arena also hosts live concerts and music entertainment, student productions such as Greek Week's annual Step Show and Airband, and community festivals like I-Fest, UNC Charlotte's annual International Festival.  

BELK GYM The Belk Gymnasium (130,000 square feet) provides recreational instructional areas including a weight room and a six-lane swimming pool as well as classroom space for Recreational Services, the College of Health and Human Services, and other disciplines. The gym floor is in constant use with class instruction, recreational free play, sport club competition, and varsity athletic practice. The pool has a large shallow-water area for water aerobics and a comfortable temperature for lap swimming or play. Pool memberships are identical to Belk Gym memberships; all services are free to students with membership.
